While some might think I TRY to torment and make the lives of my children miserable, there ARE times when my little ones just make it down right impossible not to.
Today was one of those days. Molly wanted to play outside. And while that was fine with me, I just asked that she stay in our driveway where I could see and hear her. Reasonable enough, don't you think?
Obviously NOT ... because when I peeked out to check on my little girl ... she was not in the driveway.
I spotted Miss Molly over at the neighbor's house. So, I calmly called her home. Sat her down. Explained the rules and informed her that if she couldn't follow those rules then she could not be outside right at that time, since I was busy ... DOING HER STINKIN' LAUNDRY! Like usual. Ahem.
Not wanting to be stuck, in what I'm thinking they view as a house of hell, she assured me that she understood and would follow the rules to a "T". And I believed her. So, I released her again from this dungeon that we call their 'home'.
Approximately 20 seconds later (not kidding), I peek my head out the door to see what she's found to occupy herself ... and she's ... she's ... she's ... GONE!
Good grief! I could hardly believe it.
Taking a deep breath, I try to remind myself not to scream at her like an insane wild woman. After all, there ARE other people outside ... actually playing with their kids.
I find her on her bike down on the corner. It's not exactly far. But, it's not our driveway either. So I do what I have to do.
Let me tell you ... reeling her in was not easy, but I managed to do so once I set my beloved fountain pop down on the bumper of my suburban. I know! Who knew the things one could accomplish when using TWO hands!!?? Seriously. It's simply amazing.
Just sayin'.
Anyway ... once back inside. I told her, rather sternly, that she was NOT going back outside until I could join her. And, in her usual fashion, as only Molly can pull off, she fell to the floor ... in complete and utter hysterics.
Molly: MOM!!!! I so don't like you right now. Not one bit.
Me: I'm sorry to hear that.
Molly: Mom! Stop. I mean it. You are super dooper really THE BEST at making me sad and ruining my life ... and I hate that!
Me: Please don't talk like that. It's not nice!
Molly: What? Why are you being soooooo mean to me? I'm trying to give you a compliment!!!
Me: A compliment?
Molly: Um, yeah!! Duh?? A compliment! That means that I'm telling you what you're good at ... and it is supposed make you feel happy.
Really? WOW! So that is what a 5 year old's version of a compliment is? Who knew?
